This is Gene Watson. He is an accountant. His wife wanted to get a divorce. But now she is dead and has left him with their little daughter Lynn to care for.
They arrive at Los Angeles´ rail way station.
And Daddy Gene is late for an appointment.
But Mr. Smith here has quite other ideas. He has a guvernor he wants killed.
And by kidnapping Gene´s little girl he wants to force the mildmannered accountant to do the shooting - or at least take the fall.
"Shoot the guvernor or I´ll kill your daughter!"
Gene dreams that "Mr. Smith" gets so irritated with his hesitation and unwillingness to shoot the governor, that he grabs Gene and throws him off the balcony.
What does one do?
Who should live - little Lynn or the governor?
Gene seeks help.
... but who can he trust and who is in on the conspiracy?
