Fengele is traveling to Amerika in search of her father. But ends up at some English foster parents. Luckily somebody finds out she is very good at singing. And that helps her on in life.

Later Fengele travels to Paris. But as an orphan, jew and woman she feels she often have to stand on the outside looking in and observing what people do.

Fengeleīs friend gets involved with the lead tenor at the opera and get them both jobs singing in the choir.

People are feeling at home, enjoying themself and having fun. They think the German dictator Adolf Hitler is a great guy who runs things smoothly.

Caesar is a Gypsie and feel most at home with his family. He doesnīt like dictators much. ... but then again; Hitler hates Gypsies in general and/or people who want to decide for themselves especially.

But as times goes by Caesar and Fengele find out they feel at home in each otherīs company.

But still Caesar manage to persuade his girl that she should leave for Amerika in order to find her father. She would rather stay with him. He is afraid what might happen to her if she joins the Gypsies for good.
 
... but his tears tells me he would rather have kept her here in his warm arms.

Fengele is almost killed anyway when her ship is sunk in the Atlantic. The Second World War has started. She manage to reach the American shore in safety though.
